Nestomalt-Dinamina marathon on August 2

All arrangements have been finalised to conduct the 14th Nestomalt Dinamina marathon to be worked off on August 2 from Dambulla to Kekirawa.

The marathon is organised by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Limited. This event is conducted by the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AA) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Police.

This regional mini marathon will start from opposite the Dambulla Clock Tower at 2.30 p.m and will finish from opposite the Kekirawa Police Station covering a distance of 20 kilo metres. There will be three feeding points along the marathon route at the Senani Pre School Kithulhitiyawa, Revatha Vidyalaya Madatugama and at the 89th kilo metres post.

In addition there will be four sponging points along the marathon route near Sashikala Hotel in Bulagala, Govijanaseva Office in Madatugama, Siddik Stores in Kailapathana and near Priyantha Hotel Thibbatuwewa. The registration of the competitors and the medical check up will be held at the marathon administration centre from 8.30 a.m to 12.00 noon. The lunch for the competitors will be held from 12.00 noon to 1.00 p.m and the banians and the baggage tags will be issued at 1.00 p.m.

The marathon convoy will start at 2.00 p.m and this will include police bikes, police pilot car, three Nestomalt vans, Dinamina vehicle, St. John's Ambulance, back up bus, Nestomalt clock and the Athletic Association vehicles.

The runners will line up at 2.15 p.m and after a briefing from the Athletic Association the marathon will start at 2.30 p.m. Over 1500 competitors including several promising schoolboys are expected to participate in this marathon. Accommodation for the outstation competitors (men and women) will be provided at the Dambulla Central College. The awards presentation for the winners and the runners up will be held at the Kekirawa Public grounds followed by the Nestomalt Geethanjalee Musical Extravaganza.

The winner in the men's race will receive a cash award of Rs. 7500, second Rs. 5000 and third Rs. 3000. In addition they will receive trophies, certificates, track kits and Nestle gift packs.
