A four-member committee appointed by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to address the primary concerns of the Muslims of Sri Lanka and submit an urgent report to the party leadership thereon met yesterday for the second time and decided to call for written representations and views from the public. The President's Committee comprises Governor Western Province-Alavi Moulana, former Member of Parliament - Haleem Ishak, President's Counsel M. M. Zuhair and former Member of the Western Provincial Council Ahmed Izzeth. They have decided to call for representations covering any aspect of current political developments to be received by the office of the Governor of the Western Province at Fourth Floor, Unity Plaza, Station Road, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4. on or before Friday July 25. The Committee decided to make a special appeal to all Muslims in the SLFP and the PA including all former party and community activists to make use of this opportunity to express their point of view on how to obtain the support and the cooperation of the Muslims in resolving through the party and political leadership all outstanding issues faced by the people including the resolution of all outstanding grievances of party stalwarts who have contributed in many significant ways for the empowerment of the party. |
