C. de S. Kulatillake, well known writer and lecturer will be conferred an honorary doctorate in literature (D.Litt) by the Institute of Aesthetic Studies at its Convocation to be held shortly. His name was proposed for this honour four years ago at the lecturers' staff meeting and unanimously approved by the Institute's Board of Management in March 2002. Mr. Kulatillake's writings on Sinhala music have gone round the world, especially to the Berlin University, Koln University, Oslo University and the Michigan University in USA to name a few. His most famous book "Sangeetha Sambhavaya" is now in its third edition. Among his other books are "Daha-Ata Vannama" and "Jana Sangeetha Siddhantha". He has received many encomiums of his writings here and abroad. Students of the Aesthetic Institute feted him recently and got him to open their Music Research Unit named after him. The Arts Council of the Cultural Affairs Ministry too felicitated Mr. Kulatilleke for his services towards the development of music. Dr. Reice Flora of the Monash University, Australia in a message to the felicitation volume, referred to Mr. Kulatilleke as the only Ethnomusicologist in Sri Lanka today. |
