Samoa beat Sri Lanka Sunil Abeyawardana from Jamaica KINGSTON, Jamaica, Sri Lanka's hopes of moving into the second round of the World netball championships was shattered following their 33-61 defeat at the hands of Samoa in their second outing of the tournament in Kingston, Jamaica. The Lankans failed to put up any real resistance against the more superior Samoa side which also included three New Zealand players who had participated in the youth championships. Sri Lanka were trailing 9-12 at the end of the first quarter but were behind 9-12 after the second quarter. Sri Lanka conceded a 6-16 lead to their opponents at the end of the third quarter and lost the fourth and final quarter 9-15. However the Lankans could have reduced the margin had they played with a better understanding. |
