Tellefsen due to meet Soosai today by Ranil Wijayapala In the backdrop of the postponement of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Chief Tryggve Tellefsen's scheduled meeting with the LTTE Sea Tiger leader Soosai in Mullaitivu, Tellefsen was scheduled to have another round of discussions with LTTE Political Wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan last evening in Kilinochchi. SLMM Deputy Chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News yesterday that the SLMM Chief visited the tortured civilians in the Wanni yesterday prior to his meeting with Thamilselvan. The second round of talks between Thamilselvan and Tellefsen aimed at continuing their dialogue over the proposals over sea incidents, the LTTE's adherence to the Ceasefire Agreement and complying with SLMM rulings specially regard to the Wan Ela camp issue. Tellefsen is due to meet Sea Tiger leader Soosai today in Mullaitivu to come out with concrete proposals over the sea incident as the LTTE is blaming the SLMM for not taking effective measures regarding sea clashes. The LTTE has demanded that the Wan Ela area should be surveyed by the SLMM again for the LTTE to decide over the dismantling of the military complex. SLMM Deputy Chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News that the SLMM ruling over the Wan_Ela camp is still valid despite the LTTE's claim that the camp is located within LTTE controlled areas. SLMM Chief Tellefssen has also raised the issue of assassination of local politicians in the North East posing it as a matter jeopardizing the ceasefire between the Government and the LTTE. Thamilselvan has flatly denied LTTE involvement in those assassinations. The release of the sailor under the LTTE custody has also been taken up for discussion. |
