Wan Ela camp located outside LTTE controlled areas - SLMM by Ranil Wijayapala The fresh survey, carried out by the Trincomalee SLMM on the demand of the LTTE to see whether the controversial Wan Ela camp is located within LTTE controlled areas, has proved beyond doubt that the camp has been constructed outside LTTE controlled areas in Kinniya. SLMM Deputy Chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News last night that the Trincomalee SLMM has reported this after completing their survey yesterday in Kinniya. "We are in the process of conveying the message to the LTTE leadership in Kilinochchi about the results of the survey", Haukland added. "The SLMM Chief will convey the message that the LTTE should remove the camp as soon as possible in accordance with the ruling given by the SLMM", he said. Haukland said the LTTE area leadership in Trincomalee has already been informed of the results of the survey since the survey was carried out by the SLMM in Trincomalee in the presence of the LTTE area leadership. The SLMM carried out the survey in the Wan Ela area in the North of Kinniya as the LTTE demanded that the camp was within their territory when SLMM Chief Tryggve Tellefsen met LTTE Political Wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan in Kilinochchi on Monday. The Trincomalee SLMM gave ruling on June 30 that the LTTE has violated the Ceasefire Agreement by constructing a camp in the government controlled areas and demanded the immediate dismantling of the camp. The LTTE refused to comply with the SLMM ruling demanding that the camp was within their territory. |
