SLMM Deputy chief slams LTTE by Ranil Wijayapala The Deputy Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission slammed the LTTE yesterday saying that they are violating the ceasefire agreement by refusing free access to the no mans area in Welioya where the Army alleges that the LTTE has constructed a bunker. The SLMM Deputy Chief said the presence of SLMM monitors is futile if the LTTE who is a partner in forming the SLMM to monitor the ceasefire, is going against them. The SLMM Deputy Chief made these comments over the incident in which the LTTE has prevented the monitors from Vavuniya SLMM who tried to reach the area. The Army is alleging that the LTTE has constructed a bunker in the no mans area going against the ceasefire. The LTTE has done this three times, Haukland added. "We are pressing the LTTE to act in accordance with the ceasefire agreement", Haukland added. The SLA informed SLMM Chief about this unauthorised construction when the SLMM Chief visited Trincomalee last week to settle the dispute over the Wan Ela camp. The SLMM Chief during his discussion with LTTE political wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan also raised the issue of free access of the monitors to LTTE controlled areas as the LTTE has denied free access to some areas for the past two months. |
