Manilal life member Kandy Club Manilal Fernando a benefactor of the poor man's sport soccer and A. S. M. Naufel a cue wizard were elected Life Members of the Kandy Club at their 126th Annual General Meeting held at the Club house, recently. These two become the 7th and the 8th Life members of the century old club. Fernando a well-known figure in sporting circles hails from Kalutara and the people of historic city of Kandy have honoured him for his yeoman service to sport. This is the first time that a personality from out of Kandy has been honoured by the Kandy Club. A. S. M. Naufel one of the oldest members of the club with a record of 35 years, has done a lot for the uplift of the Club. He has given his best possible backing as a member, committee member and secretary to the club. He was a top class cuiest during his playing days for Kandy YMMA. This time too he was elected as the General Secretary too. Evergreen Roy de Silva a household name in sporting circles not only in Sri Lanka but where ever the Olympic Sports is there in the World was elected as the President for the 18th time. |
