Panadura group correspondent

Upendra Dharmasena, Assistant Superintendent of Police Panadura said peace committee members and the officials of the Pinwatta Police Station have set an example to the others by constructing a well equipped house at a cost of Rs. 126,350 and donating it to two unmarried old sisters whose wattle and doube house collapsed following strong gale that occurred in Pinwatte area in the Panadura Police Division.

A foreign tourist Laurie Pierce spent Rs. 5,500 to purchase a set of furniture for the house. He was addressing a gathering on the occasion of donating the house to the two sisters of a poor family. The ASP said they are spinsters living together and they do not have any wealth. Inspector K. A. S. W. Kumarajeewa summoned the peace committee members and made them aware of the Pathetic situation of the two old sisters Kuslin Nona and Chalratte Nona of Medapansala Road Pinwatte.

The peace committee members with the assistance of the public collected building materials and constructed the house in three month. The bond of public relationship between the Police and the public was strengthened.

Further, ASP Dharmasena said this was an example set for the OICs of Police Stations in the island and peace committee members to help the poor families who do not have to house to live. If one house is constructed per year how many families are benefitted?

Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Labour and Employment sending a special message stated that the donation of a house to a poor family was a great service and the Pinwatte Police and the peace committees in the area set a valuable example.

Panadura Division SSP Kithsiri Dayananda who was on a study tour also sent a message. Jayantha Weeranath, Panadura Divisional Secretary, K. D. L. C. Perera and Ranjith Soysa, Pradeshiya Sabha members also participated.
