The adventure outfit of Lanka Sports Reizen, Sri Lanka's specialists in water sports and many other adventure activities, are planning a water sports awareness camp along with its Midsummer Wind surfing Championship which is due to take place in the Ibbankatuwa Reservoir situated within the Cultural Triangle in Dambulla.

"We are taking this initiative to hold this water sports awareness camp to educate and make it a learning experience to the visitors attending as spectators to witness the Windsurfing Championship on that day, said Shehan Pilapitiya, Adventure Specialist of Lanka Sport Reizen.

Apart from the Championships the organisers have planned a fun filled programme for everybody that will be attending the event which is on the 6th of July from 9.00 am. Demonstrations on Windsurfing, Canoeing, Jet scooters, Water skiing, Banana boating and other adventurous activities connected to water sports will take place. A grand scale diving demonstration is due to be performed by senior diver Somadasa de Silva and his team.

"Our motive is to make water sports popular as an all island leisure activity, practised by our rural youth and not merely to preserve it as an up-market hobby practised by tourist and the elite".

Pilapitiya further added. "This is why we moved this event inland to Dambulla", he said.

Kind patronage has been received by Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Paddy Vithana, Minister for Tourism, Mr. Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Central Regional Development, Mr. Tissa Attanayake, the Mahaweli Authuority and the Windsurfing Association of Sri Lanka which has further contributed towards making this very extraordinary event a success.
