Take swift measures to ensure country's security - PM Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed Defence Minister Thilak Marapana and Interior Minister John Amaratunga to take swift measures to strengthen the security of the country in order to curb the present violent situation. The Premier who is currently in the United Kingdom on an official visit had given those instructions following a report received by him on the recent violence which occurred here. He has also instructed the Police and chiefs of security divisions to take immediate steps to repress violence prevailing in the country. He ordered the heads of the Police and the three Armed Forces to diligently carry out measures to ensure the security of Sri Lanka. He has also instructed the Police and the three Armed Forces to take strict steps in respect of alleged violent activities by the LTTE and act with total dedication to protect law and order in the country. The Premier, having taken in to consideration the incidents of assassinating police intelligence personnel, representatives of political opponents and abductions of people including Muslim civilians allegedly by the LTTE has paid attention to strengthen the security in a bid to maintain law and order in the country. At the same time, Premier Wickremesinghe has called upon the chiefs of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) to act steadfastly in the cause of ensuring the security of Sri Lanka. |
