by Asanga Warnakulasuriya Dehiwela Police on Tuesday night took into custody 28 suspects following the murder of IP Sunil Thabrew OIC of the Dehiwela Intelligence Unit. The suspects included both Tamil and Sinhala youth."They were taken in connection with various crimes in the Dehiwela Police Division", Dehiwela OIC IP R.P.Senanayake said yesterday. "The raids were carried out under the orders of the IGP T.E.Anandaraja and the Western Province South DIG K.P.P.Pathirana", the OIC said. Among those arrested were a Tamil youth who had come to Colombo from Mulaithivu.The suspect had failed to provide a valid reason for his presence in the area . The Police had recovered a forged National Identity Card and a forged University Admission card in possession with the suspect. "The Police are investigating to ascertain whether the youth had links with the LTTE", said the OIC. "The majority of the suspects in Police custody were Sinhala (17) while rest were Tamils", OIC added. |
