PA denies meeting LTTE

by Uditha Kumarasinghe

PA Media Spokesman Dr. Sarath Amunugama on Friday categorically denied the news published in an English daily that he and Chief Opposition Whip Mangala Samaraweera have met the LTTE. "This is a piece of misinformation which has been planted and we categorically refute this news story," Amunugama told the PA weekly media briefing yesterday.

He said: "As a party, we like to talk to everybody. Any citizen of this country has every right to have any discussions with our party. We are an open and democratic party and we will talk to anybody. Anyone who is interested in talking to us is most welcome. So far we have not had any contacts with the LTTE, not even a request. If any contact is to be made with the LTTE, the PA will make it very open and educate the public as to how that is being done.

Chief Opposition Whip Mangala Samaraweera said this is a completely manufactured piece of news. If the PA is going to talk with the LTTE, we will keep the country informed. It won't be in the hotels in Singapore or it won't be in the jungles of Wanni like the UNF Government did.
