From Chatura Vidyaratne in London Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is on a two-day official visit to the United Kingdom will meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair today at 12.15 pm UK time. During the meeting, the Premier will brief his British counterpart on the unprecedented amount of aid received by Sri Lanka at the recently-concluded Tokyo donor conference and the current situation of the peace process.
The two Prime Ministers will also discuss ways of re-starting the peace talks which have been temporarily suspended. British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw will also participate in the discussion. Before meeting Prime Minister Blair, the Premier will meet several senior Cabinet Ministers. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe arrived in London on Sunday at 9 am local time. The premier and his official delegation were accorded a warm welcome by a British official delegation and by a diplomatic delegation headed by the Sri Lankan High commissioner in UK. Government Chief Negotiator and Spokesman Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Foreign affairs Minister Tyronne Fernando also joined with Premier Wickremesinghe for this official visit. Science and Technology and Economic Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda who arrived in London two days back will also join the Prime Minister. Minister Moragoda visited London a couple of days in advance to make arrangements for Premier Wickremesinghe's meetings with UK leaders and officials. |
