New technology to villages The Ceylon Tobacco Co. Ltd has launched an islandwide program to establish Information Technology Centres with access to internet in rural areas and making the people in those areas active partners of national development, a Finance Ministry press release said. The program which is being implemented by the Ceylon Tobacco Co. Ltd on a concept of the Secretary to the Treasury, Charitha Ratwatte, has given priority to the disabled people in villages, useful citizens to the society and directing rural people towards new avenues of self-employment, thereby strengthening their economy. The Ceylon Tobacco Co. Ltd is expected to spent Rs. 200,000 on this program to establish each centre of modern technology. The Ceylon Tobacco co. has planned to establish Information Technology affiliated to the Local Centres of the Ceylon Tobacco Company as the first phase and the second phase will include a large number of such Technology Centres covering the whole island at village level. |
