Opposition moves to unseat Pakistan Kashmir PM MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistani- controlled Kashmir, Friday (AFP) The opposition in the Pakistani zone of Kashmir sought disqualification Thursday of the region's prime minister for suggesting Kashmir be split to resolve the historic and bloody dispute between India and Pakistan. Opposition leader Sultan Mahmood asked the speaker of the 48-member state legislature Sardar Siab Khalid to unseat premier Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, whose All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference party took 32 seats when he was elected premier in July 2001. Khan created a stir last month when he floated the idea of a permanent bifurcation of the disputed Himalayan region along the banks of the River Chenab as the permanent boundary. |
