Gamini - Otter's president for fourth successive year

Gamini Nethicumara was elected unanimously as the President of the Otter's Aquatic Club for the fourth successive year (2000 to 2003) with his able General Secretary Tissa Madigasekera for the 2nd consecutive year at the well attended Annual General Meeting held in the Club premises recently.

Gamini as popularly known in the Club & sports circle heads a Club which is more than 50 years old and very popular for swimming, Tennis and indoor games. During the first three years in office he converted this into a family Club. He also added few more games for the benefit of the kith & kin of the members.

Gamini's ambition in life is to complete the blue print presented by the Committee which will cost nearly Rs. 300 million. This includes Swimming pool to the Olympic standard, Diving pool, Learners pool, all Indoor games including Billiard & Snooker, Squash Basketball, Tennis & Badminton, Auditorium, Function Hall, Residence for outstation visitors & car park for nearly 300 vehicles, said Gamini. The club which had a small number of members at the time Gamini took over in year 2000 has now increased to more than 8000 members.

This clearly shows the confidence the members have placed in the Management & Administration of the Clubs said a long standing life member of the Club. Gamini is also the President of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation and was responsible in starting the Mini Basketball Coaching programme for children between the ages of 05 & 12 years.

He is a member of number of Non-Governmental Organizations in Sri Lanka. He is the Chairman/Managing Director of the popular Mercantile Organization Salaka/Senkada Group of Companies.

Siasundaram (Tennis Secretary), Abdul Sattar (Billiards & Snooker Secretary), M. Azzari Cader, Kosala Dharmadasa & Ms. O. Ranasinghe (Elected Members)
