Governing Council for SLPA Mahapola Training Institute

The Mahapola Training Institute of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) was established in 1987, after formation of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority in 1979. The Training Institute has been conducting various training programs in different fields to the employees of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and outsiders.

The training programs conducted in all aspects of Ports activities have provided the skilled manpower requirements of the SLPA, in compliance with the Port Development taken place in transforming the Colombo Port into a leading Hub-Port of the region, a SLPA press release said.

To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its training provision and utilise the Institute to its optimum capacity on the advice of Rauff Hakeem, Minister of Ports Development and Shipping, the Board of Directors of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority has established a Governing Council for the Mahapola Training Institute.

This will direct and guide the Institute to achieve its objectives in terms of developing and motivating trainers to provide a high quality training for the trainees.

The Governing Council consists of the following, intellectuals of the Prime Academic Institutions and Senior Management of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority: Parakrama Dissanayake - Chairman, Governing Council, (Chairman - SLPA), Dr. B. N. F. Warnakulasuriya - Member (Head of Marketing Manager, University of Sri Jayawardanapura), Dr. P. A. B. A. R. Perera - Member (Head of Division of Mechanical Engineering Technical & Maritime Studies University of Moratuwa), Dr. T. A. Piyasiri - Member (Senior Lecturer - Faculty of Engineering University of Moratuwa), Gamini Amarasinghe - Member (Senior Consultant National Institute of Fisheries and Nautical Engineering), Mahinda Colonne -Member (Managing Director - SLPA), R. P. de S. Arambewela - Member (Director (Technical) - SLPA), Abeyratne Banda - Member (Actg. Director of Merchant Shipping) and M. W. F. Wimalasuriya - Member (Secretary Chief Training Manager)
