EPDP member killed by Ranil Wijayapala Another member attached to the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) who has filed his nominations for the North-East Local Government Election was shot dead allegedly by the LTTE pistol group yesterday in Kalladi, Batticaloa, defence sources said yesterday. R. Ramachandran was shot dead by two people who came on a bicycle in Kalladi, Batticaloa around 10 am, sources added. In another incident, Kandiah Subathiran alias Robert, the most senior member of the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (Varathar wing) was killed by an unidentified sniper on Saturday morning around 6.30 when he was doing physical exercises in the upper floor of the EPRLF (Varathar wing) office located along the Jaffna hospital road. Subathiran (44), was immediately taken to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. K. Subathiran is the most senior in the EPRLF Varathar wing and is considered second only to C. Varatharaja Perumal, the leader of the EPRLF Varathar wing and a former chief minister of the North-East province in 1989, party sources said. |
