Protect the trees, says Minister

Kegalle special correspondent

The district office of Environment and Natural Resources was opened by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Rukman Senanayake at Nagolle in Kegalle.

The Minister speaking at a meeting that followed said unexpected disaster brought about to men and his property is due to the imbalance of ecology created by men through his wanton destruction of forest resources. The destruction of trees has brought changes in climate and has condensed the fertility of the soil creating grounds for soil erosion. He stressed that the children must be taught to preserve the trees and protect the environment.

He requested the young and old to love and care for trees. He said that the government is hoping to open Environment and Natural Resources office in every district and arrange to educate the youth on environmental preservation.
