by Ranil Wijayapala Air Force Commander Air Marshal Donald Perera has appointed a five member committee headed by Wing Commander Sumangala Dias to look into the incident in which an AN-32 aircraft carrying troops from Ratmalana to Palaly was damaged after it slipped away from the runaway while landing at the Palaly airport. An AN-32 aircraft carrying troops from Ratmalana to Palaly slipped off the runaway after it touched down at Palaly airport on Saturday around 2.45 pm and damaged one of its wings. The aircraft carrying 55 troops from Ratmalana took off around 2.00 p.m. and was landing when it suddenly slipped off the runaway and crashed against a pole nearby, causing damage to one of its wings. The wing of the aircraft caught fire immediately but it was brought under control within minutes. One of the passengers received minor injuries and the runaway remains unaffected for movements. |
