Knighthood for Christopher Ondaajte

by Colvin L. De Silva

Sri Lankan born financier, publisher and arts lover, Christopher Ondaajte has been awarded a knighthood for his efforts as a philanthropist and supporter of arts.

He is also one of British Labour Party's reliable benefactors and donated o2 Million before the last General Election. Prime Minister's Office at Downing Street said that the honour has been vetted independently and was unconnected with support for the Labour Party.

Ondaajte has also donated several millions of pounds to the National Art Gallery and one wing has been named after him. He came over to live abroad when he was a small boy and grew up to be a very successful businessman dealing in financial services.

He is a keen follower of happenings back home. Recently he joined the Friends of Sri Lanka Association - an organisation composed of many Sri Lankans living in the UK and British Nationals who have served in Sri Lanka.
