by Ananda Kannangara The Airport branch of Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has recorded a marked income of Rs. 32 million from registrations made by Sri Lankan expatriate workers during the first five months this year. According to a recent research released by the Bureau the Airport branch has earned approximately Rs. 32,733,390 during this period. "This has been a 46 per cent growth achieved by us in comparison to the income of Rs. 70 million obtained during the twelve month period from January to December last year," Chairman, SLBFE Susantha Fernando said. He said the change on the management structure of the Bureau Registration Counter at the Bandaranaike International Airport(BIA) made on the instructions of Employment and Labour Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe in February this year have resulted to achieve the current progress. The research also indicates that the departure of 75,521 Lankan workers have been reported during the fist five months of this year and among them 80 per cent are housemaids found employment in the Middle East region. The Bureau has also noticed a marked 10 per cent improvement of professionals such as Doctors, Engineers and Accountants seeking employment in foreign countries during this period. Accordingly most of these professionals have secured jobs in England, America, Canada, Australia, Singapore and several Western countries.
