The historical Buddha Statue carved out of Crystallized rock which was discovered in 19 broken parts buried in a pit 20 feet deep has been restored to its original image by the relentless effort of Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera of Sri Bodhiraja Dharmayathanaya, Hinguraara, Embilipitiya, who is also the President of Sri Bodhiraja Foundation. The statue dating back to 5th century AD, was discovered and excavated by the villagers in 1992 and restored under great archaeological care employing the workmanship of archaeological craftsmen.Ven. Dr.Sobhitha Thera pioneered the restoration activities. The restored statue will be unveiled on June 14, the Poson Fullmoon Day at 3.30 p.m.at the Sri Bodhiraja Dharmaayathanaya, Hinguraara, Embilipitiya. The Sri Bodhiraja Foundation is honoured to unveil this Buddha Statue as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. Ven. Sek Miao Ee, Chief Abbot of the Leong Hwa Chan Si Temple, Singapore, will lead the ceremony. The statue after restoration stands 12 feet tall and bears the gesture of Abhaya Mudra resembling the historical Buddha statues of Avukana and Maligawila. |
