by Sarath Malalasekera Inspector General of Police T.E. Aanadarajah yesterday opened a special Police Post at Gangodavila covering the area of the Sri Jayawardhanapura University. On the directive of the IGP Western Province South DIG K.P.P. Pathirana had deployed a special mobile unit to patrol the university area to avoid any clashes between the residents of the area and the university students who organised a sathyagraha on Wednesday morning. The residents of the area including family members of the undergraduate Ovitigala Vithanage Samantha, who was allegedly killed by JVPers for taking an anti-ragging stance a few months ago, obstructed the undergraduates who participated in the Sathyagraha. The University authorities yesterday said that the Bhikkus who participated in the sathyagraha were the members of the pro-JVP Inter University Students Federation. |
