ANCL illuminates Mihintale for Poson

The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. (ANCL) will illuminate Mihintale this Poson Poya day.

This is the 41st consecutive year that Lake House will be undertaking this task. The placing of the relics casket on the elephant will be done by the Minister of Power and Energy Karu Jayasuriya and Chief Minister North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayake today at 8.00 p.m. The Minister will also switch on the illumination on the first day.

Provincial Ministers and Parliamentarians in the Province led by Ministers Lal Gamege, P.Harrison and MP Chandrani Bandara will take part in the illumination ceremony. A Bhakthi Gee programme has been organised by the Anuradhapura Youth Services Centre. Fifteen groups will take part in the competition on June 13.

On Poson Poya Day, the ceremonies will start at 5.30 a.m. with 250 school children observing Sil. A nationwide Dharma Deshana programme will commence at 8.00 a.m under the patronage of Kotugoda Dhammawansa Nayaka Thera. This programme will be shown live on Sirasa T.V.

Ranjith Wijewardene will commence the illumination ceremony for the day by switching on the lights with the participation of the Minister of Buddha Sasena W.J.M.Lokkubandara. Lake House will also launch a new Website for Mihintale.

Minister of Transport and Aviation Tilak Marapana will switch on the lights on Sunday. The National Savings Bank will be the main sponsor of the event.
