by Ananda Kannangara All public servants who reach the maximum point of their respective salary scale would nevertheless be granted their annual increments continuously according to a new government circular. Circular no. 07/2003, issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, Management and Reforms has already been sent to all Government institutions including ministries, departments and local bodies for compliance. According to the circular any public servant who had reached the maximum of their salary scale before January 01, 1997 will be entitled to arrears. "The payment of annual increments for public servants who reached the maximum salary scales has been a long-felt need considering numerous requests made by them over the past several years," Public Administration, Management and Reforms Minister Wajira Abeywardane told the Daily News. He said that this annual increments scheme is also applicable to government pensioners who were deprived of this increment after reaching the maximum salary scale and retired from the service between January 01, 1997, and December 31, 2002 upon reaching 60 years. "The scheme which was implemented on the directive of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will not only benefit by public servants in executive grades but also labourers," he added. |
