Singer's mother knocked down

Mary Soris Chitty (73) mother of popular singer Rajiv Sebestian was killed in a road mishap. She was knocked down by a van on a pedestrian crossing and succumbed to her injuries at the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital.The incident occurred at the Soysapura junction on the Galle road.The deceased was a resident of the Soysapura scheme.

Kekiriwelagedara Piyadasa (42) driver of the van said in evidence before the Additional City Coroner M. Ashroff Rumy that he was driving in the direction of Mount Lavinia from Kandy when the victim was knocked down.

Rajiv Sebestian said that his mother lived with her sister and on the day in question he was informed that his mother had gone to the town and was missing. He searched for her everywhere including hospitals but to no avail.

Later he learnt through one of his friends and a senior Police officer that his mother was at the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital. He found her unconscious.

The City Coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death due to head injuries. AJMO Dr Channa Perera held the post-mortem. Evidence was led by Mount Lavinia Police.
