by Sarath Malalasekera Elaris Perera, father of Baddegane Sanjeewa who was attached to the President's Security Division (PSD), pleaded guilty before the Maligakanda Magistrate and Additional District Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena to the charge of possessing stolen items that were removed from the venue of the UNP election meeting held at Maradana on December 18, 1999. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who conducted investigations into a complaint made by the UNP organisers, that several persons including PSD personnel caused damage to the UNP election meeting held in Colombo recovered several items from the residence of Baddegane Sanjeewa's father. After the submissions by the CID and the Counsel for Elaris Perera the Judge put off the sentence for June 23 and directed Perera to appear in court on the next date. Earlier the Judge directed the two President's Security Division personnel, who are charged with causing damage at the UNP election meeting in Colombo on December 18, 1999, to appear before court on June 23. The CID who appeared for the prosecution moved for a date to commence the trial against the accused W. Anura Ratnayake and W.A. Lionel Ranaweera of the President's Security Division (PSD). |
