HCPL captures 80% share of digital photo imaging market

Fujifilm, which has stamped its authority on the digital photo imaging sector in Sri Lanka, remains committed to sell conventional photo products utilising the latest technologies in this market, a top company executive said in Colombo last week.

Masatoshi Furukawa, Managing Director of Fujifilm Regional Services (Singapore) told a cocktail organised by Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd., (HCPL) to celebrate the milestone achievement of installing 25 Fujifilm digital photo mini labs in Sri Lanka, that the company would also make available the very latest digital technology at its disposal without delay to Sri Lanka.

Describing HCPL's feat of capturing an 80 per cent share in the digital photo imaging market as a "sterling performance," Furukawa said Fujifilm was extremely pleased with the success of its joint effort with Hayleys to develop the photography market here over the past seven years.

Hayleys Group Chairman Sunil Mendis said there had been many positive developments in the group's consumer marketing businesses and that the success of Fujifilm in Sri Lanka was a great source of satisfaction. "We are confident that we will in time, dominate all segments of the photo imaging sector," Mendis said.

HCPL Director and CEO Rizvi Zaheed said the restructuring two years ago of the consumer marketing sector of Hayleys had resulted in sharper focus, greater hands-on orientation and greater customer intimacy, bringing faster and more sustainable growth. "It is only a matter of time before we achieve the number one spot in all areas related to photo imaging, films, chemicals, paper and graphic arts products," he said.

A highlight of the event themed "Smile - We've gone that extra mile" was the presentation of the 'Most Valued Customer' Award to Vishan Seneviratne of Vishans' Colour Lab (Pvt) Ltd., which is one of the 25 Fujifilm Digital Imaging (FDI) stations in Sri Lanka. Owners of Fujifilm Frontier digital mini labs from all over Sri Lanka attended the celebration which included a fashion show by dress designers Chathuri and Shayani at the Colombo Plaza.

Worldwide, Fujifilm has installed more than 16,000 digital minilabs since the machines were first introduced to the market.

In this period, total installations of digital minilabs by all competitors together, adds up to less than 7,000 globally, giving Fujifilm a global market share of over 70 per cent.
