Test venue for Kalutara The construction work of the proposed new test cricket ground at Dodangoda in the Kalutara District will commence by the end of this month. The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) has already granted a sum of Rs. 120 million to commence the first phase of the project. "The need of a cricket stadium for the Kalutara District has been a long felt need considering various economic development projects commenced by the Government in the Southern District during the past few months," Employment and Labour Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe told the Daily News. He said that constructing a new test cricket stadium at Kalutara will automatically promote the tourism industry in the entire Southern District in future. "We have also made arrangements to construct a new Pavilion at a cost of Rs. five million, allocated by the Kalutara District Cricket Association," he said. A sum of Rs. 12 million presented by Anura Tennekoon on behalf of the BCCSL. It is also said that the proposed cricket stadium will be constructed on a six and a half acre land presented by Housing and Plantation Infrastructure Minister Arumugam Thondaman. President, Kalutara District Cricket Association Susantha Fernando accepted the land on behalf of the Association. |
