Fraud case: Two foreigners granted bail

The Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge A.M. Mohammed Mackey granted bail to two foreign nationals and another who were produced by the CID in connection with an alleged fraud at Aitken Spence (Garments) Limited in early 2002.

The two foreign nationals are David Rose, Chairman of Daylan (Pvt) Limited and Mark Gabay, Managing Director of Stafford Textiles Limited and Mohamed Sha Nawas Preena. The Judge directed them to furnish surety bail in a sum of Rs.500,000.

Granting bail the Judge directed the foreign nationals and the other suspect not to leave the country without prior permission from Court.

Mohan Peiris appeared for the two foreign nationals and the other suspect. Lasantha Wickramatunga appeared for Aitken Spence (Garments) Ltd.

The case will be called on August 6, 2003.
