Health Minister, WHO officials tour Kalutara, Galle districts

Health, Nutrition and Welfare Minister P. Dayaratne, accompanied by high officials of the World Health Organization and the Health Ministry inspected the sanitary and health conditions of flood victims in the Kalutara and Galle Districts recently. Public Administration, Management and Reforms Minister Vajira Abeywardena joined Minister Dayaratne from Galle.

Their tour covered the hospitals and MOH offices in the Bulathsinhala, Agalawatta and Meegahatenna areas in the Kalutara District and Hiniduma and Neluwa in the Galle District.

In the course of their tour, they came across a few patients suffering from viral fever and diarrhoea which were not at epidemic level.Minister Dayaratne also took immediate steps to attend to several shortcomings he observed in the health institutions that he visited. The two Ministers in addition to visiting health institutions also met the flood victims of the Neluwa, Galle and Nagoda areas and distributed household goods and equipment and power generators. They also inspected a drinking water project in Nagoda maintained by a German NGO.

W.H.O. Resident Representative Dr. Kan Tun and Emergency and Disaster Management Consultant Eric Jegard who took part in the tour undertook to provide chlorination equipment for the use at MOH offices in these areas to purify water.
