The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) has decided to contribute a total of USD 200,000 (Rs. 19 million) to support the victims of the flood and landslide disaster. USD 100,000 (Rs. 9.5 million) has already been committed to UNICEF, to be used towards immediate relief assistance - including mats, buckets, cooking utensils, basic school supplies, bottled water and tetracycline - for the flood affected areas, a press release said yesterday. In addition, USD 100,000 (Rs. 9.5 million) has been contributed to the Sri Lankan Red Cross Society (through the International Federation of the Red Cross) for their relief assistance to victims of the floods and landslide disaster. The Embassy of Sweden follows the developments and the humanitarian needs closely and will be ready to consider additional contributions, it said. |
