Dialog GSM, the cricketers saviours

by Sa'adi Thawfeeq

At a time when the Sri Lanka cricketers are facing brickbats from all sides due to their poor performances on the cricket field Dialog GSM, the country's premier mobile service provider came to their rescue by acting as their saviours.

"In good times and bad we will stand by you. We will be the concrete behind you," said Dialog GSM general manager/sales and marketing Nushad Perera as the company renewed its partnership with the national cricket team for another year.

"It is an assurance from us to all our young cricketers. It is communication that is going to make everything smooth. Please try your best to play it well," said Perera.

The national team who were beaten semi-finalists in the 2003 World Cup have failed to enter the finals of two successive one-day tournaments since then at Sharjah and in Dambulla. They are due to embark on a tour to the West Indies early next month.

Perera said that it was Dialog who stood by Susanthika Jayasinghe when she was virtually unheard of in Sri Lankan athletics.

Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, director/CAO of the company said that Dialog was not only supporting international cricketers but also extending their arm to school cricket as well by sponsoring some of the 'Big Matches'.

"We are giving so much support to cricket because we believe that Sri Lanka should be second to none. It has been proven on many occasion by the performances of our cricket team which is rich in talent and truly world class," he said.

Sri Lanka one-day captain Marvan Atapattu paid a tribute to Dialog by saying that the cricketers had benefitted immensely by being associated with such a company and that they had experienced no problems whatsoever in communications, which was so important today.

Atapattu thanked Dialog for coming forward and offering its services exclusively to the team at a time when they were not performing well.

"Theirs is a true commitment towards us, especially when the chips are down," said Atapattu.

Apart from offering its services and mobile phones to the national team, Dialog also signed up individual contracts with Atapattu, Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas.
