Lankan trade and investment promotion mission to Cairo

A Trade and Investment Promotion Mission to Cairo is being organised by The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in association with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo. The mission is scheduled from June 28 to July 4.

The mission is being initiated at the invitation of the Egyptian Businessmen's Association and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. The mission is being organised exclusively for members of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and its affiliated associations.

The main objective of the mission is to strengthen trade ties, establish business links, source suitable business partners for trade, investment, joint ventures and services.

The mission will assist in expanding the existing business contacts and to penetrate a new market.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will sign a Memoranda of Understanding with the Egyptian Businessmen's Association and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce during this visit.

The highlight of the mission will be the one-to-one business meetings, which will offer opportunities to mission members to have direct dialogue with their Egyptian Business associates.

The delegates will meet their counterparts from the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Egyptian Businessman's Association (EBA), Importers of Sri Lankan Products, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Alexandria Businessmen's Association.

According to 2002 trade statistics, the main exports to Egypt were Desiccated Coconut, Black Tea, Pepper, Nutmeg, Apparel/Clothing accessories, Woven Fabrics of Cotton - Dyed, Fibreboard of Wood, Coir Fibre Pith, Pneumatic Tyres, Green tea, Natural rubber(latex and RSS), Rubber products - gloves, tyres and tubes, Fresh coconuts, Spices - cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, Cashew nuts, Pineapple, Fruit juices (MD products), Cocoa powder, Chocolate, Biscuits, Extracts of essence, Activated carbon, Mattress supports, Stuffed toys, Gem and Jewellery, Artificial flowers, Handicrafts of wood, Rutile and small quantities of natural Rubber.
