Royal inter-batch cricket sixes on Sunday

Old Royalists of different age groups will be seen gathering again for the third consective time at the BRC grounds on 25th May 2003, for Royal College Six a Side Inter-batch cricket carnival.

At a time when the School was having a couple of Mega Projects being addressed simultaneously, the crunch was on for all Old Boys to contribute in whatever way they could to meet these demands. As a part of our contribution, the Royal College Group of '87 organised the above event as a fund raiser for the first time in 2001.

The "Prize" of the event, the Challenge Trophy, has been aptly named after L. D. H. Peiris who was one of the most respected Past Principals of the College. Born on the 16th July 1920 and educated at Ananda College and University of Colombo, Peiris during his tenure from 1972 to 1980 was responsible for what is considered as the "Golden Era" of Royal College.

Whilst achieving the objectives mentioned at the outset the group of '87 has been able to contribute more than Rs. 600,000 to the Sports Complex, Hostel Project as well as the Retired Teachers Association of Royal College.

The group of '87 which is organising this mega event so meticulously every year, expect to raise funds for the College development activities. This year they have planned to hold a leadership training programme for the prefects of Royal College. Royalists believe that the standard of the students in Royal College should be the best and hence every opportunity must be provided for them to enhance value addition opportunities to have a distinct advantage over the competition.

The prefects of the College represents the "Cream" of the student population being chosen to lead and set an example to the rest. They are at a juncture where exposure to a professional leadership Training programme could enable them as positive contributors in the society.

The proceeds of this year's cricket carnival will be utilised to organise the event which is estimated to cost more than Rupees half a million.

Ranjan Madugalle, Pasqual Brothers, Jagath Pattiarachchi, Capt. Ajith Pieris, Rajeewa Wijetunge, Ajith Devasurendra, Suranga Lokubalasuriya, Anushka Polonnowita among the Royal cricket stars who participated. leading businessmen paid professionals in several fields were among others.
