Indian women cricketers arrive early June The Karnataka State team will arrive here on June 5 to play six 50 limited-over matches during their tour of Sri Lanka at the invitation of the Women's Cricket Association of Sri Lanka. They will play against five clubs and the 'B' team. "This tour is to enable many players to be exposed to foreign teams and in the process to find new blood in view of Sri Lanka fielding new players for the World Cup 2005 in South Africa, said Gwen Herat, President of the WCASL. All new players in the 'B' team are coached by Palith Gunasekera and according to him, there is international material in the girls. "We must not rest upon our laurels after defeating West Indies 6-0. We have to improve our fielding, and also find girls who are taller and physically fit as this is the trend in all IWCC teams, Herat further said. As for the three cricketers who opted to stay on extended visas on their return from the West Indies tour, Herat said 'No one is indispensable. We shall find better replacements. Believe me, I will'. The Karnataka team is led by Mamatha Maben, an Indian national cap. Schedule June 7: WCASL 'B' team Vs Karnataka Moor SC Grounds |
