Appointed media consultant in Canada

Renowned journalist Lakshman Jayawardena who was one time Chairman of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House) has been appointed as the Media Consultant for Sri Lanka High Commissioner's Office, Canada. He left the island a few days ago for Ottawa where he will assume duties in his new post in the foreign service.

At the time of his new appointment, he was serving as a Director of Independent Television Network, as the Chief Editor of the Sinhala Bahudhaya newspaper and as the Managing Editor of the first Business English weekly "Business Standard" in Sri Lanka. Lakshman Jayawardena, who after completing his university education, started his journalistic career in the Lake House, was the first journalist to be appointed as the Chairman of that institution.

For sometime, he was attached to Wijaya Group where he served as the co-editor of Lankadeepa.He also authored the books "Foreign Policy of Sri Lanka", "Oceanic rights" and "The Third World" and wrote a couple of books on the life of Anagarika Dharmapala.He has also contributed articles to the internet both in English and Sinhala. Lakshman Jayawardena underwent training in journalism in Germany, United Kingdom and Japan and for sometime worked as an external lecturer in the Colombo University.He is the Senior Vice President of Press Media Association of Sri Lanka.
