HSBC Asia Pacific CEO Aman Mehta here

Aman Mehta, Chief Executive Officer of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited has arrived in Sri Lanka for a four-day visit until May 24 to meet government officials, business leaders, key clients and staff.

During his visit, Mehta is scheduled to meet Central Bank Governor, A. S. Jayawardena as well as Deputy British High Commissioner Peter Hughes.

He will also speak on Five Challenges Facing Banks in Asia, at a Business Luncheon organised by the Bankers Club. A reception has also been organised for Mehta to meet selected guests, including some of the Bank's top customers.

Mehta will also inspect HSBC in Sri Lanka's Main Office, Premier Centre and Credit Card Centre as well as several of the Bank's branches.

Indices, turnover up

The Colombo Bourse closed trading yesterday on a favourable note with the ASPI increasing to 848.1 points from 847.6 and the Milanka to 1,491.9 points from 1,488.4 points the previous day.

Turnover for the day increased to Rs. 160.8 million from Rs.120.5 million the previous day. JKH was the main contributor for the day's turnover.

According to stockbrokers 113 million shares of NDB were bought by a undisclosed foreign buyer.

The top five gainers of the day were Millers, Three Acre Farms, Union Chemicals, Equity and Seylan Bank.

Wins 'Women of the Year 2002' award

Dr. Rohini Jayaratne is the Sri Lankan recipient of the 'Women of the Year 2002' Award in the ninth edition of International Who's who of Professional Business Women (PBW) USA.

She received her award recently. She has been invited to be an Honorary Member of the International Research Board of the American Biographical Institute. The ninth edition of International Who's who of PBW has been dedicated to a few women all over the world.

The International Biographical Centre of England has also honoured her and invited her to accept the post of Honorary Vice Consul in Sri Lanka to represent them here. Her name is included in the second edition of 2000 Intellectuals of the 21st century published by them too.

She is a well-known Management Consultant, Author, Freelance Journalist, Women's Activist and a former Private Secretary of a Governor.
