Holcim and NHDA launch 'Homes for All' Holcim (Lanka) Ltd and the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to launch an islandwide project to facilitate home building. Named 'Homes for All' this new project has far reaching goals such as stimulating the local construction industry and bringing about rapid economic growth. Immediate project plans cover creating public enthusiasm about house building, encouraging the use of available loan schemes to build homes, disseminating house building know-how, training and certifying masons and promoting house building as a vocation. "Housing promotion programs such as 'Divi Piyasa' and the Plantation Housing Program recently launched under the guidance of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister of Housing and Plantation Infrastructure, Arumugam Thondaman, provide the ideal platform for this Project," said Major General Sarath Munasinghe, who signed the MoU as Chairman of the NHDA. Manilal Fernando who signed the MoU as Chairman of Holcim (Lanka) Ltd said, "As a world-leading cement manufacturer, Holcim can draw on their global expertise in constructing houses. As the only local integrated manufacturer of cement, we are making different cements under the Sanstha brand to suit different local application needs. |
