Jayasuriya, a Sri Lanka based in USA for the past 30 years said that he has acquired a ten and a half acre land in Weligama for this investment. Jayasuriya said that Sri Lanka needs quality hotels and accommodation to promote the tourism industry in the country. "I was waiting for a long time to invest in Sri Lanka and with the peace process gaining momentum I think this is the right time for this investment," he said. A businessman by profession he said that numerous requests by friends in Sri Lanka prompted him to get involved in the hospitality industry, which he forecast, would have a very good future. "Sri Lanka is a destination which can be marketed easily to the high spending clientele in Europe and in USA and I am sure my investment will pay back soon." Jayasuriya had already invested Rs. 225 million for the 44-room, Palm Beach Hotel Mount Lavinia which was opened yesterday. Jayasuriya owns 97% of this hotel which is on a one and a half acre land and had received the four star category. The property earlier belonged to S. Thomas College and subsequently to Edmond Wickremesinghe and later a mini hotel was run at the premises. Jayasuriya who designed this hotel purchased this property in 1994. |
