Army grabs Charles Robinson Hockey title Ukuwela special corr. The all-island Seven-a-Side hockey tournament held for Charles Robinson trophy at Matale, was won by Sri Lanka Army beating Sri Lanka Air Force by one goal to nil. Twenty five well-known hockey teams in the island participated at the tournament organized by the Colombo branch of Matale St. Thomas' College Old Boys Association. After a tough tussel Sri Lanka Army scored a goal against Airmen (1-0). A large gathering of spectators was in attendance to witness the event at Bernard Aluwihare stadium and Edward Park. Central Bank Governor, A. S. Jayewardene, an Old Boy of St. Thomas' College was the chief guest on the opening day whilst Matale Mayor, Hilmi Mohamed participated as the chief guest at the finals. Kumar Abeysinghe, Mass Communication Ministry Secretary, Deputy Mayor V. G. Jinadasa and Matale Hockey Federation president, Duljith Aluwihare also participated. |
