by Panduka Senanayake The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) will seek the assistance of their Indian counterparts to trace the local connections of a drug ring detected by Indian officials on Friday. The detection by officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) resulted in the arrests of two men in Madurai and led to the recovery of over 10 kilos of heroin with a Sri Lankan street value of Rs. 18 million. American dollars and Sri Lankan Rs. 20,000 were also recovered by the NCB men who raided a house at Kolampalayam in Erode District, according to reports. According to reports, the total amount of heroin bound for Sri Lanka and detected by NCB officials so far this year is about 65 kilos worth Rs. 117 million. Recent detections in Sri Lanka and India point to smugglers using a sea route between Rameshwaram and Mannar to smuggle in stocks of heroin weighing over 10 kilos. |
