by Sarath Malalasekera

An underworld gang leader, Moratu Saman as described by police was shot dead on Sunday night by unidentified gunmen in Moratuwa Police area.

Investigations reveal that the assailant escaped in a motor cycle after the shooting incident.

Moratu Saman was the organiser of Moratuwa Vesak Lantern designed by D.P. Jayasena.

Police believe that a rival group of Moratu Saman had killed him on his way home after attending the Moratuwa Vesak lantern ceremonies held opposite the Moratuwa UC office.

Investigations were directed by Western Province South DIG K.P.P. Pathirana and conducted by Mt. Lavinia Senior SP W.P. Dayaratne.

Moratuwa and Panadura police are also assisting in the investigations.
