The Mahaweli Centre and Lake House have started a joint programme to collect immediate assistance for flood victims. The public can make their contribution to assist flood victims at the Mahaweli Centre. Irrigation and Water Management Minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perera has directed to set up this centre responding to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's call for immediate steps to assist flood victims following the worst floods in the country after 56 years. People who wish to provide aid can send or bring dry-rations, milk powder, cooked food, drinking water, mattresses, clothes, medicine or any other item they think will be of use to these flood victims, to the Mahaweli Centre. The Mahaweli Centre will remain open 24 hours to receive such aid.
