Eagle wins Best Annual Report award in insurance, Good Governance Eagle Insurance Company in addition to wining the award for the Best Annual Report in the Insurance sector also became the first runner-up in Good Corporate Governance Disclosure covering all categories. This is the first time that the award for Good Corporate Governance Disclosure was introduced to the Annual Report competition organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. "This is an endorsement of Eagle's emphasis on corporate values and good Corporate governance", a company spokesman said. "As such the Accounts have clearly and consistently been in compliance with statutory and best accounting practice standards". Commenting on becoming the first runner-up in Good Corporate Governance Disclosure, he said that 'delivering the promise' to all stakeholders was the theme for the annual report in 2001 and it highlighted Eagle's exemplary corporate citizenship. "Benchmarking and best practice transfers are ongoing processes at Eagle enabling the company to achieve very high standards on pre-set goals. This coupled with prudent business management and the philosophy of transparency of the top management results in providing greater security and value addition to all stakeholders". These are the hallmarks of Eagle's corporate governance, the spokesman said. The company's commitment to social responsibility was highlighted in the Report by focusing on initiatives such as the National Safety Award, safety awareness campaigns and the Higher Education Scholarship scheme. |
