Petes open season with good win St. Peter's College began their new inter-school rugby season with a smashing 29 points to 5 win over Carey College in their Milo inter-school rugby encounter at Bambalapitiya yesterday. The Peterites collected their points from three goals, one try and one penalty after having led 17 nil at half-time. The Careyites responded with a solitary try. The reigning Milo 'A' division league champions got their act together from the kick-off while dominating both the line outs and set pieces. The most encouraging performance came from their star player Mohamed Renaz who continued his excellent form from where he left last year. The dynamic wing three quarter who stole the limelight by scoring a total of 33 tries in the concluded season again produced an outstanding performance while running down two beautiful tries. In addition skipper Rumesh Ishaq and Mohamed Sheriff also scored a try each for the winners. The latter converted three tries and later put over a good 30 metre penalty. The match also served as a good warm up session for the Peterites who will face some of the tough opponents during the next couple of weeks. The Careyites of course did well to contain the opposition to a certain extent and also had the satisfaction of scoring a consolation try in the second-half through Nuwan Chamara.
