Trials to select Wushuites for Asian championships The Interim Committee of Wushu Federation of Sri Lanka will hold a National Junior Wushu Championship to select the players for the forthcoming second Asian Junior Wushu Championship to be held in Beijing in People's Republic of China on August 29 and 30 2003. The first Asian Junior Championship was held in 2001 in Hanoi, Vietnam where Sri Lanka won two Silver medals and one Bronze medal. The Junior Championship will be held in two sections, Taolu [Routine] and Sanshou [Combat Events]. Taolu, the routine section is divided as Group A and Group B. The allowed events for the Group A are Chanquan, Nanquan, Thaijiquan, Daoshu (Broad Sword Play), Jianshu (Sword Play), Qiangshu (Spear Play), Gunshu (Cudgel Play), Nandao, Nangun, and Thaijijian (Thaiji Sword). These routines must be the first International compulsory Routines. Group B events are Junior Compulsory Chanquan, Junior Compulsory Nanquan, (05th Duan routine of the Chinese Wushu ranking system), 24 forms Thaijiquan, Junior Daoshu, Junior Jianshu, Junior qiangshu and Junior Gunshu. Both Taolu events are open for boys and girls. Group A is for Wushuite aged years 15-17. Born between July 31st, 1986 and July 31st 1988. Group B for players aged 12-14 born between August 01st 1988 and August 01st 1990. Sanshou combat events are only open for boys aged 15-17 years born between as specified in Taolu Group A. The weight categories for Sanshou are under 48KG, 52KG, 56KG, 60KG, 65KG, 70KG and 75KG. The Wushuite who wish to compete in the junior wushu championship should send their applications before 10th June along with a photocopy of their birth certificate, a letter of concent from their parents and the events they perform. Every Wushuite in Taolu Group A and Group B has to select three competition events as follows. One bare handed routine,One short weapon routine and One long weapon routine. Sanshou athletes should enter only for one weight category.
