by Nelson Piyaratne Kataragama group correspondent The present ethnic problem in Sri Lanka requires only a political solution. A military solution cannot be applicable to this matter at the present juncture. In a situation of war both sides are loosing but only weapon manufacturers are winning. Considering all these facts it is LTTE's utmost duty to rejoin the peace talks with the government and help to establish permanent peace in the country whereby all the communities can cherish the fruit of peace without fear or favour. Chairman or Kataragama Hindu association, V. Palani Andawar expressed these views commenting on the LTTE's temporarily pulling out of the peace talks with the Sri Lanka government. Palani Andawar added that this wretched war had been dragging on for about 20 years without offering any solution to the people but depriving them of their houses, schools, hospitals and as a result creating disharmony in the minds of both Sinhala and Tamil. "The war leads our lives into a mess so that these two communities became arch enemies who once lived with a brethren love. Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe's peace talks enable the Sinhalese living in the South to visit the Tamils in the North East and learn their hospitality as well as the cruelty of the war. The Tamils also understood the peace loving nature of the Sinhala people. Now both sides experienced the invaluable freedom of peace. So it is not easy to persuade them to wage a war again. Every human being is desirous to enjoy the freedom of peace. So we call upon the LTTE to rejoin the peace talks and bring about multi-communal harmony again in Sri Lanka. |
